Send the UNLV Wind Orchestra to France
Help send our UNLV musicians to France!
We are proud to say that we have once again been invited to perform at the Festival des Anches d’Azur in La Croix Valmer, France, by invitation of the city’s mayor. During its 20-year history, the festival has grown and evolved significantly, and we are the only American university ensemble ever invited to perform.
The UNLV Wind Orchestra last made an appearance at the festival in June 2005 where it performed two concerts — receiving commendations from the local government and citizenry, with more than 2,000 guests in attendance. It is that stand-out performance that has earned the us a second invitation.
It is our goal to raise funds to cover the airfare to and from the festival so we may participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
We - the UNLV Wind Orchestra - have received international acclaim for our fresh and creative approach to music making!
Performing contemporary repertoire in addition to classical masterworks, we are responsible for commissioning and premiering numerous significant new works by America’s finest young contemporary composers including Eric Whitacre, Wendell Yuponce, Jonathon Newman, Steven Bryant, Jim Bonney, Corey Hirsch, Paul Seitz, Nathan Tanouye, Kenneth Froelich and Wataru Hokoyama.
In addition, we have recently commissioned and premiered new compositions by landmark American contemporary composers Bruce Broughton, Roger Nixon, and James Barnes.
Under the baton of Professor Thomas G. Leslie, we have received acclaim for outstanding performances at The American Bandmasters Association National Conference; The Music Educators National Conference Biennial Convention; The Hokkaiddo Band Association Wind Band Conference in Sapporo, Japan; the 2005 La Croix Valmer International Music Festival in St. Tropez, France; and The College Band Directors National Association West/Northwest Regional Conference.
We also have received outstanding reviews for 17 professional recordings of international repute. These include the latest CD releases for the new UNLV Wind Orchestra Series on Clavier Records.
